Which is the best treadmill for you?

Treadmill Ratings & Reviews | Treadmill Comparisons by Price  | Treadmill Reviews by Brand

Anyone that has consistently used a treadmill for a period of time can easily validate the benefits that they bring to any exercise program. Treadmills are a great source for cardiovascular fitness, they offer aerobic workouts ranging anywhere from low impact exercises, such as Power Walking, to higher impact exercise like running. Although price should always be a consideration when making such a large purchase, buying the cheapest treadmill available may not always be to your benefit. Purchasing a treadmill is an investment and as such you should try to match the features offered and the treadmills quality to your exercise needs.

Keep in mind that there is not one treadmill out there that is perfectly designed for everyone. The key is to identify the best treadmill that meets your needs. We have put together an extended list of treadmill ratings and reviews to help you decide which treadmill is right for you. However, before reading through any of the treadmill reviews we recommend that you become familiar with the different parts and features that make up the treadmills today.

A few key points to consider when making treadmill comparisons

Motor

If you are considering purchasing a treadmill, you will want to consider those models that have a 2HP (horse power) and up Continuous Duty motor. Continuous Duty defines the minimum amount of horsepower the motor can sustain over a 24-hour period of time. Be aware that some advertisements and reviews for treadmills may promote Peak Duty which really only indicates the maximum amount of horsepower the motor can sustain over a short period of time. Advertising just the Peak Duty horsepower is a marketing trick to make the treadmill's motor appear more powerful than it really it is. The safest bet is to look at the ratings for treadmills with a minimum Continuous Duty 2HP on motor.

Running surface (belt)

Depending on your height, or the length of your legs, the running surface may be of vital importance when reviewing treadmills. Running surfaces come in a wide range a widths and lengths.  The length of the running surface does not necessarily translate into the quality of the machine, it simply reflects on what task the treadmill may be best suited for.  For example, running on a treadmill will require a larger surface than if you were to use it just for walking. The key is to understand what you will use the treadmill for and align yourself with a machine that will allow you to comfortably achieve your exercise needs.

Cushioning

Cushioning refers to the treadmills shock absorption ability. Simply put, the better the cushioning the better the shock absorption. A treadmill with a good cushioning rating will put less strain on your knees and joints. As one would suspect, a treadmill with less cushioning will provide a harder running surface.

Weight capacity

Treadmill weight capacities can range anywhere from under 200 pounds to over 400 pounds (with the prices adjusting accordingly). You can use the treadmills weight capacity ratings to help judge the durability for the treadmill (although weight capacity should not be the only tool to help judge treadmills durability).

Note: Make sure the weight capacity for the treadmill that you are considering doesn’t just meet but exceeds your current weight.

Storing ability

Folding treadmills are great for those that have limited space, however if space is not an issue the non-folding treadmills are a better choice because they are more stable. This is also why the non-folding treadmill is typically more expensive in price. However, this does not mean that folding treadmills are not a good buy. There are a lot of folding treadmills out there for you to choose that have received very high ratings.  If space is an issue then by all means consider a folding treadmill.

What features are you looking for?

Some of the many great features offered by treadmills are the Heart Rate control, Pulse grip and Incline level. Not all treadmills offer every feature so when reviewing the different models keep in mind which features are the most important to you.  The idea is to only purchase a treadmill with the features that you need.  Adding additional features in most cases will increase the overall price.  You only benefit from having the latest and greatest features if you use them.

Warranty

What is covered in the warranty and for what duration of time? Treadmills are an investment in your health but they do come with a price tag. As with any large purchase, you are going to want to make sure your investment will last. The warranty should always be considered with the treadmill rating since the repair for the various parts can be expensive.

Most manufactures offer a lifetime warranty for the frame while the individual parts have different levels for their warranty. You will want to take in heavy consideration the warranty for the motor. The motor pretty much is the treadmill and the most expensive part to fix

Something else to take in consideration is whether or not the treadmill will be serviced in your home or has to be sent away for repair. Sending parts away can be expensive and time consuming to fix.
