Product review:

About the Resistance
The NordicTrack E5Vi elliptical trainer uses the SMR™ Silent Magnetic Resistance for up to 10 levels of
resistance that can be changed by the touch of a button.  The different levels of resistance help to build muscle strength and stamina over the workout.

About the Stride Length

The NordicTrack E5Vi elliptical trainer comes a variable stride length of 13", 15" and 18". The stride length will accommodate that are average height and under users but may be too short for taller users.  Anyone over 6 feet in height will need to look at a longer stride length that starts around 20" and up.

About the Workout Programs
The NordicTrack E5Vi elliptical trainer comes with the 16 built-in workouts.  The built-in workouts are designed by personal trainers and automatically adjust the resistance levels to increase the intensity level of the workout.

About the iPod universal Dock
For those that prefer to workout without a headset the iPod dock allows you to plug in your iPod or MP3 player and play your music through the elliptical trainer's built-in speakers.

Conclusion
The NordicTrack E5Vi is priced at the high end of the budget classification for elliptical trainers.  It comes with a few nice features but falls short when compared against some of the other NordicTrack elliptical models like the  AudioStrider 990.  One of the issues with the E5Vi is the stride length.  Even though the stride length is adjustable, which is a perk, the 18 inch maximum stride length will accommodate those that are around 5'8" and under but anyone over 6' will be better off with a stride length that starts at 20" and up.

Comparing the E5Vi against the NordicTrack AudioStrider 990, the AudioStrider 990 is loaded with a lot more features for a smaller price.  First of all the AudioStrider 990 comes with a longer stride length and a power incline feature.  The AudioStrider also includes more built-in workouts, the SpaceSaver design and supports a higher maximum user weight.  Both elliptical trainers do come with a built-in iPod/MP3 port, built-in workout fan and the upper-body workout arms.

The E5Vi is not a bad machine, it's just that for the price it is not the best elliptical trainer that NordicTrack has to offer.  If you are set on purchasing a NordicTrack elliptical in the $1,000 price range our recommendation is that you take a look at the AudioStrider 990.
