If you have ever watched an exercise equipment infomercial then you are probably already familiar with the Bowflex revolution.  Bowflex home gyms have been around for some time now and are a good piece of exercise equipment but they are not for everyone.  Instead of using free weights like the traditional home gyms, Bow Flex uses a power rod technology for resistance.  You can increase the weight in your workout by adding more rods to the exercise.

How are the reviews for the Bow Flex product line?

One of the more common complaints surrounding the Bowflex gyms are that the price is a little high.  The Weider Crossbar, which uses a similar type of technology, is quite a bit cheaper then the Bow Flex brand.  Another complaint that has been raised is that the gym can be a little awkward to use and do take some time to get use to.  Also, the execution of the exercise for the Bowflex gyms is quite a bit different then traditional gyms.  In order to effectively get the maximum resistance from the power rod you will need to bend it all the way down.  The problem with this is that the exercise is not as smooth as it would be using a traditional home gym or free weight system.

If you goal is to build strength and a lot of muscle then a concern that you may run into is the gyms weight limit. Some of the more expensive Bowflex gyms go up to a little over 400 pounds, which may meet most peoples needs, but you still have to consider if the weight is enough is enough for your leg workouts as your strength grows. For a lot of people the high end Bowflex gym's maximum weight of 400 pounds is more than enough but if you are serious about putting on a lot of muscle you will probably in time outgrow this gym.  Another issue is that the free weight gyms really do work better too.  The resistance of the weight in free weight gyms is consistent through the entire exercise.

Bow Flex are good gyms and have made a good name for themselves for good reasons.  Whether or not the Bowflex is right for you really depends on your goals. As we stated earlier if you are looking into building serious muscle then we would recommend you take your money and invest in a free weight home gym.
