Anyone serious about losing weight or maintaining good health should look into some type of body fat monitor. A lot of people that are trying to lose weight simply rely on the output from the scale to determine if their current weight loss efforts are a success or failure. Unfortunately relying on a scale alone is a mistake if your are trying to lose weight. Think about it, what if the weight loss is from a loss of water or even worse muscle. There are a lot of crazy diets out there and any diet that has you dropping ten pounds in one week is fooling you into thinking that you lost ten pounds of fat. In reality you probably lost mostly water or muscle weight.
It takes 3500 calories to burn one pound of fat so to lose 10 pounds in one week would mean you would have to burn 35000 calories in the seven day period. Very unlikely! Plus, starving yourself or drastically reducing your calories only works in the short-term. The metabolism is a tricky little fellow and just reducing your caloric intake will not in the long run keep you burning fat. Your metabolism will simply adjust, by slowing down, to the lower caloric intake by putting you in a position where you burn less of what you eat. The point being made is that a scale alone is not the best way to track your success. If you want to read more about increasing your metabolism you can do so by clicking here.
